The Vortex Razor 5-20x50mm HD represents a great value in the long range precision shooting world. The Razor is a 5-20x50mm rifle scope that can be had in, minute of angle or millirad. The Razor is a full feature scope and Vortex’s flagship. Many long range practical precision rifle shooters are utilizing the Razor HD with a lot of success. Vortex offers a lifetime transferable warranty on their products and their customer service is among the best in the industry.
The 5-20x50mm features a first focal plane reticle with reticle options for millirad and minute of angel. The large 50mm objective does a great job funneling in light and the 35mm main tube provides ample room for elevation and windage travel. The 0.1 mrad or .25 MOA knobs of the Razor are extra large and easy to move with a gloved hand. The elevation knob features a zero stop and 10 mrad or 25 MOA of elevation per revolution (High speed knob version). They also feature a luminous strip to indicate the zero position. The individual click adjustments are very pronounced and easy to use by feel.
The 5-20x50mm Razor features a side turret parallax adjustment knob. One of my only dislikes of the 5-20x50mm is how picky the parallax is at different ranges. I find myself adjusting it often when shooting targets at different ranges. This can take some getting used to and is by no means a deal breaker. If you do not have time to adjust the parallax because of the par time during a precision rifle match you just take the shot with the sight picture a little fussy.
The illumination control can be found near the ocular end of the scope. Its function is similar to a Leupold scope. It is a small knob with different intensity settings with an “off” option in between them. That makes it easy to toggle between the selected illumination intensity and an “off” position.
The ocular portion of the scope features a rapid reticle focus and generous exit pupil. The scopes clarity is also impressive. The magnification ring takes a little bit of effort to move. With less than 1 complete turn you can go from 5x to 20x magnification. The upgraded eye box is an improvement over the original configuration and is more forgiving. The brown hard anodizing gives the 5-20 Razor an attractive finish.
Included with the Vortex Razor 5-20x50mm are a sunshade, pop up scope lens covers and plastic anti reflective device. Vortex also includes the needed allen wrenches for adjusting the zero stop, zeroing the elevation and windage turrets and a anti cant indicator that mounts to the scopes main tube. 35mm rings are available from Vortex and are perfect for mounting the optic to your rifles picatinny base.
My Dad has been running the Razor for some time now on his Black Ops Precision build. The scope has proven to be durable and repeatable.
