A recent thread on TacticalMatches.com got me thinking. The title and subject of the thread is; “What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done before or during a match?” I have done plenty of dumb things before a match like waiting until the last minute to load my rounds or thinking I was returning the elevation knob on my US Optics rifle scope to zero when in reality I was one rotation off. To add to the during part I have done things like, not having enough rounds to complete a stage and dialing for wind then forgetting to return the scope to zero. I’m guilty of much more than that but we’ll save those for down the road.

I’ve gotten better at avoiding mental errors over time and have even picked up tools to assist myself. The same company that produces the excellent shooting bag I have been using, Str8 Laced Gun Gear also produces a product called the “Wrist Operator”. It’s a Velcro wrist band with a detachable tablet. You can cover it with a label or paper and write down notes. I’m horrible at remembering my D.O.P.E. and even worse at it during a match. I have a habit of pressuring myself to perform and sometimes it has a adverse effect on my shooting, resulting in mental errors.

I use the Wrist Operator to write down everything from target ranges, DOPE, stage descriptions and hold over’s. The back side of the tablet is covered in Velcro and can be easily removed to make it easier to write on. Once I have the information I want on there I stick it back on the wrist band. During a stage with multiple targets at different ranges I can quickly glance at my support hand and see the information I need.

Just like all Str8 Laced Gun Gear products they are made here in the United States of America. The construction is solid and the wide bands make it comfortable to wear. The straps are adjustable for a proper fit. Since discovering this product many of my team mates have also picked one up and we all utilize them in our own way. The individuals behind Str8 Laced Gun Gear are AZ LRPRS members and use their insights and precision shooting experience to produce excellent products.
