The guys and I love shooting, hunting and the outdoors. During the summer we will endure the heat to put some rounds down range. We pop out of bed before the sun rises and get the trucks loaded with gear and equipment. This past Sunday was especially fun because we brought the girls out to do some practicing. Some of our team members have been shooting the local 3 gun match at Desert Sportsman. We refer to 3 gun as the “3 gun crack pipe” because it is addictive and a ton of fun! While 3 gun is not our area of expertise or even the primary shooting sport we participate in, we do enjoy it greatly.
This Sunday we had Gale and Candis shooting shotgun, pistol and carbine. It was a lot of fun spending time with them on the range and sharing something we enjoy. Participating gave the girls the opportunity to increase and push their shooting abilities. Shooting various stages allowed them to become more familiar with the different guns and increase their skills with them. We feel it is important to get family members involved with shooting. The skills they learn could prove to be life saving. The fact is good and evil exists in the world we live in, examples of both are infinite. People need to poses the skills and ability to confront those who do not respect the law, life and are intent on harming others.
3 gun does not prepare someone for the physical and philological changes that happen when you are truly scared and are confronted with a life or death situation, but it does serve a very useful purpose. The shooting sports will not teach you about the use of force deadly force or firearms related laws in your area. You would need to encourage training that covers those areas specifically. 3 gun is a useful tool to build skills and get others involved with shooting. The firearms used are very practical for self defense and did I mention its fun?
